A History of Ellenos Yogurt at Pike Place Market

Ellenos Yogurt opened its first yogurt bar in Pike Place Market in 2013.

The Pike Place location is now closed permanently to focus on its distribution, but Ellenos has since been a local favorite.

Ellenos Yogurt can now be found at Whole Foods stores nationwide! Congrats to Ellenos for your remarkable growth and commitment to amazing-quality yogurt.

But the story behind Ellenos goes beyond just delicious yogurt. It’s a tale of tradition, community, and a chance encounter that brought a taste of Greece to the heart of the Emerald City.

The Birth of Ellenos Yogurt

The story of Ellenos Yogurt begins in 2013, with a serendipitous meeting at Pike Place Market’s Fresh Yogurt stall. Bob and Yvonne Klein, the stall’s owners, crossed paths with Con Apostolopoulos, a third-generation Greek yogurt maker.

Impressed by Con’s family recipe, steeped in generations of yogurt-making knowledge, the Kleins knew they had stumbled upon something special. A partnership was formed, and Ellenos Yogurt, named after Con’s father, was born.

This collaboration brought the rich heritage of Greek yogurt-making to Pike Place Market, adding a new layer of flavor and cultural experience to the already diverse market offerings.

A Commitment to Tradition: The Art of Ellenos Yogurt

What truly sets Ellenos Yogurt apart is its unwavering commitment to traditional Greek yogurt-making techniques. Unlike its mass-produced counterparts, Ellenos yogurt takes its time. Crafted with slow fermentation and only the finest ingredients, it boasts a luxuriously creamy texture that melts in your mouth.

The secret lies in the process: fresh, local milk is combined with probiotic cultures, then undergoes a slow and gentle fermentation. This meticulous approach results in a yogurt that is not only delicious but also boasts a delightful tang, perfect for those seeking a healthy and flavorful treat.

A Symphony of Flavors: Ellenos Yogurt for Every Palate

They offer a delectable array of options, ensuring perfect yogurt for every taste bud. From classic favorites like Plain and Vanilla to more adventurous choices like Marionberry and Passion Fruit, Ellenos caters to a variety of preferences.

Don’t miss the seasonal offerings, either! In the fall, the Pumpkin Pie yogurt adds a touch of autumn spice, while the summer brings the refreshing taste of Mango.

Again, The Pike Place Market location of Ellenos Yogurt is permanently closed as of 2024, but you can find these wonderful flavors at Whole Foods Markets nationwide.
